What you'll accomplish
Convert dense specification language into clear, one-page field instruction sheets that trade foremen will actually read and use, in any language your crew speaks.
What you'll need
Not every spec section needs a field instruction sheet. Focus on the ones where misunderstanding causes the most rework or safety risk:
High priority sections to translate:
In Bluebeam or your spec reader:
For sections under 20 pages, copy-paste works well. For longer sections, pull out the specific subsections most relevant to the trade (Part 2 Products and Part 3 Execution are most important for field work).
"Translate this specification section into a 1-page field instruction sheet for a [trade name] foreman. Assume they have not read the full spec. Format as:
If your crew includes Spanish-speaking workers, immediately follow your English prompt with:
"Now translate the entire field instruction sheet into Spanish, keeping the same format and using vocabulary appropriate for a construction site worker."
What you get: A bilingual instruction sheet ready to print.
Before distributing, review the field instruction sheet with your superintendent, who may know specific field conditions that need to be added. Ask them: "Is there anything here that doesn't match how this trade actually works on this site?"
General spec translation: "Translate this [spec section] into a 1-page field instruction sheet for a [trade] foreman. Format: TOP 5 REQUIREMENTS, BEFORE YOU START, WHILE YOU WORK, BEFORE YOU COVER UP, IF IN DOUBT."
Spanish translation: "Translate this construction field instruction sheet into Spanish using vocabulary appropriate for a [trade] worker on a US commercial construction site."
Safety-specific translation: "Extract all safety requirements from this spec section and write them as a half-page safety briefing for the [trade] crew. Include: PPE requirements, fall protection requirements, hot work restrictions, and any hazardous materials."
Pre-installation checklist: "Based on this spec section, write a pre-installation checklist for the [trade] subcontractor foreman: things they must verify are complete and correct before their work begins."
